Seems like some stimulating conversations will get me out of hiding. OK, I wasn't really hiding, I just wasn't blogging.

There are certain things on my list of what I'm here to do. Sounds nebulous to people who aren't plugged into the same kind of stuff. Wiring of the global brain. Emergence of collective intelligence. Tools for creativity. Building a new civilization. Conscious evolution. Self-organization. Collaboration.

They've sort of been on hold for me for a while. At least after I realized that one can't avoid having to make a living, however much that sucks. So I added to my list of interests: Escape velocity. Organizing viable activities. Even: Internet marketing. And: Managing beliefs. Living deliberately.

I'd prefer to spend my days inventing stuff that will change the world. Maybe I will, once I get a couple of key things in place. But there's no reason to procrastinate either.

A couple of recent conversations has made me realize that there are smart people out there working on the kind of stuff I'm into. Which makes me rather hopeful. It might indeed be time to wake up and start the generators again.

Last night I was pondering my good fortune at being able to make a decent living only working a fraction of full-time. So, while I might devote a few hours per day to things like getting scroll wheels to work properly with a Flash app, which doesn't seem very world-changey, I can actually still spend a bunch of hours per day on other stuff. I still have to figure out whether or how I want to change the world, but I theoretically have the time to do it :-).

Ironically, while in most of my working life I've aimed for being independent, my most productive time has been a few years when I had a relatively boring 9-5 job with nothing much to do. Since I didn't have to worry about money and I had plenty of free time, I felt free to get really creative. Wrote several books, started a movement, and generally felt very serene.

Now I haven't had an actual job for more than 10 years, and I feel obliged to spend most of my time worrying about money and work. Silly.

Nice to see you back - I look forward to reading more from you. :-)

I thought that was very interesting what you said in the comment above about work, seems that is the way of things!

The timing of things seems to be important, things that don't come together at one point may just have been 'not ripe' perhaps now would be a good time for it to ALL fall into place (the money AND inventing things to change the world!), I hope so.

Yeah, some things work at one time that didn't work at another. No reason to be stuck in one's "failures". They're likely to be components of an eventual success, when the mix is right, and the timing is right.
